内容简介:

Micromachining is a very promising technology to manufacture miniature three-dimensional (3D) devices at millimeter-wave (mm-wave) and terahertz (THz) frequencies. After a decade’s development, this technology has begun to demonstrate its viability and capability. It has delivered devices with competitive performance to traditional metal machining or electroforming, for coaxial and waveguide structures with sub-millimeter dimensions. This talk will discuss three strands of work that tackle three main challenges - fabrications, designs and measurements – in this technology. Several devices will be presented to illustrate progresses made on the multi-layered micromachining techniques based on SU8 and silicon. The concerned frequency covers 30 GHz to 1 THz.

The talk will also discuss some recent work on multi-role microwave components and the co-design. This focuses on the integration of filtering function with signal distribution networks and antennas.

报告人简介:

Dr Yi Wang received his BSc and MSc degrees in Physics, and Ph.D. in Electronic Engineering from the University of Birmingham, U.K. He had worked at Birmingham as a Research Fellow for six years before joining the University of Greenwich, U.K. as a Senior Lecturer in 2011. He is a Senior Member of IEEE. His research has been concerning emerging microwave and millimetre-wave device technologies based on novel materials (e.g. superconductors, ferroelectrics, meta-materials) and advanced fabrication process (e.g. micromachining, MEMS). His current research themes are: (1) Micromachining and mm-wave/THz devices for metrology and sensors; (2) Multi-port filtering networks and multi-role microwave components. His research is mainly funded by industry and the UK Research Councils.
