  The mutual coupling effect on the performance of adaptive array antenna

and the direction of arrival (DOA) estimation

内容简介Long term evolution (LTE) of the 3GPP radio technology and worldwide interoperability for microwave access (WiMAX) standards have decided to choose MIMO technology as one of key technologies in order to achieve much higher data rate for next generation wireless communication. The research on the performance of array antenna applied to the mobile terminals for MIMO system or adaptive array antenna system has been very active for several years. The effect of mutual coupling among array antenna elements on performance of array antenna is a very serious and important issue due to the limited space for array antenna in a small mobile terminal. This lecture will help audience to understand more clearly about the mutual coupling effect on direction of arrival (DOA) estimation and adaptive array antenna performance. It will address the following issues:

1.       Universal steering vector including mutual coupling between array elements;

2.       MUSIC-based DOA estimation method;

3.       Simulation and experimental results obtained by MUSIC-based DOA estimation method;

4.       A 4-channel W-CDMA receiver with adaptive array antenna;

5.       Performance of adaptive array antenna at the presence of mutual coupling.


报告人简介:Dr. Qiaowei Yuan received the B.E., M.E., and Ph.D. degrees from Xidian University, Xi’an, China, in 1986, 1989 and 1997, respectively. From 1990 to 1991, she was a special research student at Tohoku University, Sendai, Japan. From 1992 to 1995, she worked in Sendai Research and Development Laboratories, Matsushita Communication Company, Ltd., researching and designing the compact antennas for 2rd generation mobile phone for Japanese market.  From 1997 to 2002, she was a researcher in Sendai Research and Development Center, Oi Electric Company, Ltd, researching and designing small antennas for pager communication and the parabolic antenna for 26.5GHz fixed wireless access (FWA) communication, finishing a commercial MoM (Methods of Moment)-based antenna design simulation soft called as V-CALAR. From 2002 to 2007, she was a senior researcher in Intelligent Cosmos Research Institute, Sendai, Japan, involved in the research and development of adaptive array antenna and RF circuits for mobile communications. From 2007 to 2008, she was an associate professor of Tokyo University of Agriculture and Technology. Currently, she severs as an associate professor of Sendai National College of Technology and a researcher for industry-university co-operation in Tohoku University .

Dr. Yuan’s current interests include antenna design for wireless communication, adaptive array antenna, MIMO communication, computational electromagnetic and wireless power transmission.
