Technologies of controlling neuronal activity in the brain have become improved.

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) and transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) is able to generate a long-term increase or decrease in the neuronal excitability that can

modulate cognitive tasks non-invasively. Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) is the

application of a brief magnetic pulse or a train of pulses to  the skull, which results in an induction of local electric current in  the underlying surface of the brain, thereby producing a localized  axonal depolarization. tDCS is a method that weak direct current (1 mA - 2 mA) applied to the cortex can shift the membrane potential of superficial neurons thereby modulating cortical excitability and activity. These methods cause neuronal prasticity temporary by the stimulation from outside the brain.  We applied TMS to cognitive studies for visual perceptions.  In this presentation, I will give an overview of our transcranial stimulation studies.
