学术报告会通知 题 目: Advanced Materials and Components Research for THZ Application 报 告 人: Dr. Hao Xin (Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Physics at the University of Arizona)
Research involving Terahertz (THz) spectrum spanning from 100 GHz to 10 THz has enjoyed dramatic growth in terms of technical achievement as well as commercial implementation recently. The growth is application driven with interests from broad fields such as medical and biological imaging and analysis, defense and security screening, communication networks and radars, etc. Together with a perspective of THz backgrounds, this presentation will highlight several research projects being carried out at Prof. Xin's group. Firstly, THz electromagnetic crystal (EMXT) structures with their design, fabrication, and characterization will be discussed. Demonstration of EMXT based novel waveguides, antennas and other components will be presented. In addition, our recent development of a rapid prototyping technique for mmW / THz component fabrication using polymer jetting will be described. The great flexibility and potential of this novel fabrication method will be highlighted. Our ultimate goal of achieving low-cost, high performance and fully packaged THz integrated micro-systems will be discussed. Finally, study on carbon based nano materials and devices for high frequency (microwave to THz) applications will be presented. 报告人简介: Dr. Hao Xin, Associate Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, and Physics at the University of Arizona. He joined University of Arizona since August 2005 as an assistant professor. He received his Ph.D in Physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology in February 2001. From 2000 to 2003, he was a research scientist with the Rockwell Scientific Company. He was a Sr. Principle Multidisciplinary Engineer with Raytheon Company from 2003 to 2005. His primary research interests are in the area of microwave / millimeter wave / THz devices, circuits, antennas and their applications in wireless communication and sensing systems. His recent research activities have covered a broad range of high frequency technologies, including applications of new technologies and materials in microwave and millimeter wave circuits such as electromagnetic band gap crystals and other meta-materials, carbon nanotubes devices, solid state devices and circuits, active or semiactive antennas, and passive circuits. He has authored over 120 referred publications and 14 patents (12 issued and 2 pending) in the areas of microwave and millimeter-wave technologies, random power harvesting based on ferrofluidic nanoparticles and carbon nanotube based devices. He is a senior member of IEEE and chair of the joint chapter of IEEE AP/MTT/EMC/COMM in Tucson AZ. hxin@ece.arizona.edu 520-626-6941.
